Mossend Railhead is a vital element of Scotland’s
freight transport links with the rest of the UK and continental
Europe.
The Railhead – which provides a direct
road-to-rail link to all major transport routes including
the Channel Tunnel – has expanded to improve services
and introduce state-of-the-art facilities for the 21st century.
It is a leading provider of inter-modal freight
facilities, with all ancillary needs provided, including transfer,
storage, security and distribution between road and rail.
The link was expanded in 2004 at a cost of more
than £3m, and was opened officially by Scottish Executive
transport minister Nicol Stephen.
Mossend Railhead – owned and operated
by long-established haulage specialists PDS – will help
remove nearly four million “lorry miles” and 50,000
containers from Scottish roads during its first 10 years.
Quote on opening of new Development:
“This (railhead terminal) is an excellent example
of the way business can contribute to the environment,
whilst delivering goods and remaining competitive”
- Nicol Stephen, Transport Minister, Scottish Executive
, April 27 2004.
